1.Govt bans 43 more Apps
- Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued an order under section 69A of the Information Technology Act blocking access to 43 mobile apps.
- The action was taken based on inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities that are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of a state, and public order.
- It was based on comprehensive reports received from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
2.BrahMos
- As per reports, India is working on a 1,500-km range version of the system. BrahMos currently has a range of 290 km.
- BrahMos is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land.
- Supersonic includes speeds up to five times faster than the speed of sound.
- It is a joint venture of DRDO of India and NPOM of Russia. It is named after the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva.
3.Desalination Plants
- Recently, Maharashtra announced the setting up of a desalination plant in Mumbai.
- A desalination plant turns salt water into water that is fit to drink which is mostly set up in areas that have access to seawater.
- Reverse osmosis (RO) is the process used to remove the excess salt.
- Worldwide, desalination is seen as one possible answer to stave off the water crisis.
4.Lachit Borphukan
- Prime Minister paid tribute to Lachit Borphukan on Lachit Diwas (24th November).
- He was a commander of the erstwhile Ahom kingdom (Assam) and is considered as culturalidolinAssam after he defeated a large Mughal Army on the banks of Brahmaputra in the Battle of Saraighatin 1671 to defend Guwahati.
- Lach t was appointed as Borphukan'by King Chakradhwaj Singha.
- Borphukanis a position embedded with both executive and judicial powers.
5.Shahtoot Dam
- India recently announced that it would build the Shahtoot Dam in Afghanistan.
- Dam will be built on the Maidan river a big tributary of the Kabul river in Afghanistan.
- India also funded in 2016 SaIma Dam (Afghan-India Friendship Dam) on the Hari River in Afghanistan's Herat province.
6.India, us extended nuclear energy partnership by another Decade
- In 2010, India and the US had signed a Memorandum of Understanding {MoU) for cooperation on the Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCN EP). The MoU has been extended for 10more years.
- Extended Mou committed to:
- Promote cooperation to give impetus to nuclear safety and security.
- Deepen the dialogue on nuclear and other radioactive material security.
- Build on the International Recognition of the GCNEP.
- GCNEP is the world's first nuclear energy partnership center and the sixth R&D unit under the aegis of the Department of Atomic Energy.
- It was established by the Government of India with the assistance of the US, France, and Russia in Haryana in 2010.
- It helps in capacity building, in association with the interested countries and International Atomic Energy Agency, involving technology, human resource development, education &.training and giving momentum to R&D in enlisted areas.
- GCNEP is a part of the Indo-US nuclear cooperation agreement signed in 2008.
- A major aspect of the agreement was the Nuclear Suppliers Group gave a special waiver to India that enabled it to sign cooperation agreements with a dozen countries.
- It also enabled India to separate its civilian and military programs.
