1. 10th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
Recently, the Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan attended the 10th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
About East Asia Summit
-
It is the Indo-Pacific's premier forum for strategic dialogue.
-
It is the only leader-led forum at which all key partners meet to discuss the full range of political, security and economic challenges facing the Indo-Pacific.
-
The inaugural session of East Asia Summit was held in Kuala Lampur in 2005.
-
It has 18 members i.e. ten ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) along with Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the United States and Russia.

2. Aatmanirbhar Bharat ARISE-ANIC Initiative
Recently, the NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has launched the Aatmanirbhar Bharat ARISE-Atal New India Challenges (ANIC) Initiative.
About Aatmanirbhar Bharat ARISE-ANIC Initiative

The programme will be driven by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
-
It will support deserving applied research–based innovations by providing funding support of up to Rs 50 lakh for speedy development of the proposed technology.
-
Its objective is to proactively collaborate with Ministries and the associated industries to catalyse research, innovation and facilitate innovative solutions to sectoral problems.
-
It aims to support MSMEs and start-ups for making India innovative, resilient, tech-driven, and research and development (R&D)-oriented.

3. EASE Banking Reforms Index 2.0
Recently, the Ministry of Finance released the results of the EASE Banking Reforms Index 2.0
Key Highlights of EASE Banking Reforms Index 2.0

The Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have shown a healthy trajectory as their overall score increased by 37% between March-2019 and March-2020.
-
The PSBs have adopted tech-enabled, smart banking in all areas, setting up retail and MSME Loan Management Systems for reduced loan turn-around time and PSBloansin59minutes.com and TReDS for digital lending.
-
The Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India, and erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce were felicitated for being the top three in the ‘Top Performing Banks’ category.
-
The Bank of Maharashtra, Central Bank of India & erstwhile Corporation Bank were awarded in the ‘Top Improvers’ category.
About EASE Banking Reforms Index
It was launched in 2018 which is aimed at institutionalizing clean and smart banking. It is an Enhanced Access and Service Excellence (EASE) Reform Index. It is jointly prepared by Indian Banks' Association (IBA) and Boston Consulting Group. It analyzes the performance of PSBs on six themes i.e. Responsible Banking, Governance and HR, PSBs as Udyamimitra for MSMEs, Credit off-take, Customer Responsive and Deepening Financial Inclusion & Digitisation.

4. e-Gopala App
Recently, the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has decided to launch the e-Gopala App.
About e-Gopala App

It is a comprehensive breed improvement marketplace and information portal for direct use of farmers.

It will the first digital platform in the country for farmers:
-
managing livestock including buying and selling of disease free germplasm in all forms;
-
availability of quality breeding services (Artificial Insemination, veterinary first aid, vaccination, treatment etc.); and
-
guiding farmers for animal nutrition, treatment of animals using appropriate ayurvedic medicine/ethno veterinary medicine.

5. Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana
Recently, the Prime Minister has decided to digitally launch the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
About Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY)
-
It is a flagship scheme for focused and sustainable development of fisheries sector in the country.
-
It will be implemented for a five-year period i.e. FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25 in all States/Union Territories, as a part of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Package.
-
It will be launched with estimated investment of Rs. 20,050 crores for beneficiary-oriented activities in Marine, Inland fisheries, Aquaculture and Fisheries Infrastructure.
-
The primary objectives of PMMSY are:
-
enhancing fish production by an additional 70 lakh tonne by 2024-25;
-
increasing fisheries export earnings to Rs.1,00,000 crore by 2024-25;
-
doubling of incomes of fishers and fish farmers;
-
reducing post-harvest losses from 20-25% to about 10%; and
-
generation of additional 55 lakhs direct and indirect gainful employment opportunities in fisheries sector and allied activities.

Significance of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY)
-
It is designed to address critical gaps in fish production and productivity, quality, technology, post-harvest infrastructure and management, and modernization and strengthening of value chain.
-
It aims to consolidate the achievements of Blue Revolution Scheme and envisages many new interventions such as fishing vessel insurance, support for new/up-gradation of fishing vessels/boats, Bio-toilets, etc.
-
It will primarily focus on adopting ‘Cluster or Area based approaches’ and creation of Fisheries clusters through backward and forward linkages.
Other inaugurations related to Fisheries sector
- The Prime Minister will announce the establishment of Fish Brood Bank at Sitamarhi, and of Aquatic Disease Referral Laboratory at Kishanganj.
- The PMMSY will provide assistance for the establishment of the Fish Brood Bank and Aquatic Disease Referral Laboratory.
- These facilities will help in enhancing production and productivity of fish by ensuring timely availability of quality and affordable fish seed for the fish farmers.
- One-unit of Fish Feed Mill at Madhepura and two units of ‘Fish on Wheels’ assisted at Patna under Blue Revolution will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
- A Comprehensive Fish Production Technology Centre at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar will also be inaugurated.

6. Blue Pansy Butterfly
Recently, a Blue Pansy Butterfly was spotted by various environmentalists.
About Blue Pansy
-
It belongs to the largest butterfly family called Nymphalidae that has over 6,000 species worldwide.
-
It scientific name is Junonia orithiya that has a colouration as vibrant as the hybrid flower found most often in ornamental gardens.
-
It is a species of bright blue butterflies found in parts of Southeast Asian countries, Australia and Africa.
-
They prefer open habitats, like grasslands, wastelands, woodlands, open forest areas, and farmlands.
-
The host plants, where they lay their eggs, belong to the family Acanthaceae like Peela Vajradanti (Barleria prionitis) and the Philippine Violet or Bluebell Barleria (Barleria cristata).
-
It is listed under 'Not Evaluated' category of IUCN List of Threatened Species.

7. Typhoon Haishen
Recently, the Typhoon Haishen made landfall over southern Japan.
About Typhoon Haishen
-
It is categorised as a Category 4 storm which means well-built framed houses can suffer severe damage with loss of most of the roof structure and exterior walls.
-
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has referred to the tropical storm as “large” and “very strong”.
-
Haishen was a name recommended by China and means “sea god” in Chinese.
-
The JMA numbers typhoons in Japan and the first typhoon to occur after January 1st of the year is called typhoon number 1.
The tropical cyclones that form over the Atlantic Ocean or the eastern Pacific Ocean are called hurricanes and the ones that form in the Northwest Pacific are called typhoons.
The Tropical storms that form in the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea are called cyclones.
Typhoon Committee
- The inter-governmental organisation called the Typhoon Committee which has 14 members including Japan uses Asian names for typhoons that are contributed by the member countries.
- The Typhoon Committee comprised of Cambodia, China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Macao, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the United States of America.

8. World Solar Technology Summit
Recently, the first World Solar Technology Summit was inaugurated by International Solar Alliance (ISA).
Key Highlights of World Solar Technology Summit

The summit is organised by ISA and FICCI which aims to bring together key stakeholders i.e. academic scientists, technology developers, researchers and innovators to present and discuss the recent highlights of solar technologies.
-
The ISA aims to create a World Solar Bank with authorised capital of $15 billion to fund projects.
-
The summit assumes significance in view of India’s ambitious target of having 100GW of solar energy by 2022.
-
The ISA would also launch a journal on Solar Energy (I JOSE) that would help authors from across the globe to publish their articles on solar energy.
-
The summit aims to focus on state-of-the-art technologies and next-generation technologies that will help boost efforts towards harnessing solar energy more efficiently.
International Solar Alliance (ISA)
It is a treaty-based international intergovernmental organization.
It was jointly launched by India and France in the presence of Secretary General of the UN during CoP21.
The Paris Declaration establishes ISA as an alliance dedicated to the promotion of solar energy among its Member Countries.
The ISA is headquartered at Gurugram in Haryana.

9. eSanjeevani Telemedicine Service
Recently, the Union Health Ministry's platform 'eSanjeevani' Telemedicine Service has completed 3 lakh tele-consultations.
About eSanjeevani Telemedicine Service
-
It supports two types of telemedicine services viz. Doctor-to-Doctor (eSanjeevani) and Patient-to-Doctor (eSanjeevani OPD) Tele-consultations.
-
The eSanjeevani (Doctor-to-Doctor) rolled out in 2019, is an important pillar of the Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centre (AB-HWCs) programme.
-
It aims to implement tele-consultation in all the 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centres in a ‘Hub and Spoke’ model, by December 2022.
-

The eSanjeevani OPD (Patient-to-Doctor) was rolled out in 2020 in order to provide free online medical consultation to sick people at their residence.

10. National Bamboo Mission
Recently, the Union Ministry for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has inaugurated 22 bamboo clusters in 9 States (Gujarat, MP, Maharashtra, Odisha, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Karnataka) and a logo for the National Bamboo Mission was also released.
About National Bamboo Mission

The National Bamboo Mission (NBM) was launched in 2006 on the basis of the National Mission on Bamboo Technology and Trade Development Report, 2003.
-
Its key objective was to address issues relating to the development of the bamboo industry in the country, provide a new impetus and direction and enable the realisation of India’s considerable potential in bamboo production.
-
It was started as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme in 2006-07.
-
It was restructured in 2018 with an aim to:
-
support the development of the entire value chain of the bamboo sector starting from planting material, plantation,
-
creation of facilities for collection, aggregation, processing marketing, micro, small & medium enterprises, skill development and brand building initiative in a cluster approach mode.

Facts
-
India is the world’s second largest cultivator of bamboo after China, with 136 species and 23 genera spread over 13.96 million hectares.
-
The bamboo grown outside forest areas has been excluded from the definition of tree by amending Section 2 (7) of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 in 2017.
