2. WHO-GMP/COPP CERTIFICATION
About:
- The WHO GMP certificate is mandatory in most global markets for pharmaceutical companies to be able to sell medicines.
- The manufacturer of an exporting country must be licensed by the regulatory authority of that country and comply with the WHO GMP guidelines
- The certificate of pharmaceutical product (CPP or CoPP) is a certificate issued in the format recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
About:
- It has been designed and developed by DRDO’s Hyderabad-based Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL).
- The state-of-art alloys have been in use by many developed nations in recent times as a beneficial and cost-effective substitute for the relatively heavier traditional Ni-Cr-Mo structural steels to achieve weight savings.
- The higher strength, ductility, fatigue, and fracture toughness of the titanium alloy can replace steel and can lead to considerable weight savings.
- The components which may be forged from Beta Titanium Alloy include slat/flap tracks, landing gear, and drop link in landing gear among several others.
Some of the popular alloys in the aerospace industry include:
- Titanium Alloys
- Aluminum Alloys
- Copper Alloys
- Stainless Steel
- Superalloys
- Other Specialty Alloys
About:
- The new maglev transportation system made its public debut in the coastal city of Qingdao, China’s east Shandong province.
- Launched in October 2016, the high-speed maglev train project saw the development of a magnetic-levitation train prototype with a designed top speed of 600 kms per hour in 2019, and conducted a successful test run in June 2020.
- The train fills the speed gap between aviation and high-speed trains.
- Compared with traditional vehicles running on wheels, high-speed maglev trains do not have contact with rail tracks. They have advantages in terms of efficiency and speed and produce very little noise.
About:
- In India, an estimated 1.19 lakh children lost a primary caregiver — one or both parents, or one or both custodial grandparents. Among them, 1.16 lakh lost one or both parents.
- Globally, from March 1, 2020, to April 30, 2021, the study estimates that 11.34 lakh children lost a primary caregiver (at least one parent or custodial grandparent). Including other co-residing grandparents (or other older relatives), the total is 15.62 lakh children, of whom over 1 million (10.42 lakh) lost one or both parents.
- The estimates for India indicate an 8.5-fold increase in the numbers of children newly orphaned in April 2021 (43,139) compared to March (5,091).
- Mexico (1.41 lakh) and Brazil (1.30 lakh) have the highest number of children who have lost a primary caregiver, followed by India. The US is another country where over a lakh children have lost a primary caregiver.
About:
- The manufacturing, publishing and distribution of pornography is illegal in India under section 292, 293 of IPC.
- Child pornography is illegal and strictly prohibited across the country under section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
- Under Section 14-15 of the POCSO Act, 2012 whoever uses a child or children for pornographic purposes shall be punished with imprisonment.
- In 2019, Union Cabinet has approved a new definition for child pornography in its amendments to the POCSO Act, which will be introduced in Parliament. Neither Section 67 of the IT Act nor Section 293 of the Indian Penal Code define child pornography.
About:
- New Shepard, built by Bezos' company Blue Origin, is designed to serve the burgeoning market for space tourism.
- The spacecraft lifted off from a private launch site near Van Horn, Texas. The capsule reached a maximum altitude of around 107km before starting its descent, parachuting down to a soft landing in the West Texas desert 11 minutes later.
- Competing head to head with fellow billionaire Richard Branson, who flew into space aboard his Virgin Galactic rocketplane July 11, Bezos blasted off with his brother Mark and two history-making passengers: 82-year-old aviation pioneer Wally Funk, the oldest person to fly in space, and Oliver Daemen, an 18-year-old Dutch student who is the youngest ever to fly in space.
About:
- AMLEX supplies a required volume of oxygen to the patient during inhalation and trips when the patient exhales CO2. This process saves oxygen which otherwise unnecessarily get wasted.
- Significance
- So far, during exhalation, the oxygen in the oxygen cylinder/pipe is pushed out along with the exhaled CO2 by the user. This leads to wastage of a large volume of oxygen in long run.
- In addition to this, a large volume of oxygen escapes from the openings of the mask to the environment in the resting period (between inhalation and exhalation) due to continuous flow of life saving gas in the mask.

9. SARANG HELICOPTER DISPLAY TEAM
About:
- This is the first occasion when the Sarang Team is performing its four helicopter aerobatics display in Russia, with its Made in India – Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters.
- Apart from the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard also operate this helicopter.
- The Sarang Team was formed in 2003 at Bangalore and its first international display was at the Asian Aerospace Airshow at Singapore in 2004.
- Since then, Sarang has represented Indian aviation at air shows and ceremonial occasions in UAE, Germany, UK, Bahrain, Mauritius and Sri Lanka till date.
- Apart from aerobatics displays at national and international venues, the team has also taken active part in numerous Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Missions.
About:
- Researchers from the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy & New Materials (ARCI), an autonomous institute of the Department of Science & Technology, GoI, have designed and developed thermoelectric modules using lead telluride (PbTe) and magnesium stannite silicide (Mg2Si1-xSnx) compounds, which gives more than 10% conversion efficiency.
- The ARCI team explored various metallization methods and diffusion barrier materials with a systemic approach to make a stable bismuth-doped Mg2(Si1-xSnx)-Cu joint to fabricate a thermoelectric generator.
- The thermoelectric material can generate electricity by using a temperature difference between its two sides. The thermoelectric device can also function as a small heat pump, moving heat from one side of the device to the other.
- Thermoelectric materials convert thermal energy directly into electricity through a process that involves a solid-state electron and phonon diffusion process.
