National Testing Agency and Sainik Schools: Shaping the Future of India’s Defence Education

The National Testing Agency (NTA), an independent and self-sustained premier testing organization, was established under India’s Societies Registration Act, 1860 by the Ministry of Education. Its purpose is to conduct examinations that meet international standards, ensuring a transparent and efficient selection process for candidates aspiring to enter top-tier higher educational institutions.

In alignment with national defence goals, the Sainik Schools Society (SSS), functioning under the Ministry of Defence, operates Sainik Schools across India. These English medium residential schools, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), are designed to prepare cadets for the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla (Pune), the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, and other officer training academies. Presently, the country boasts 33 Sainik Schools.
