Union Public Service Commission publishes CDS 1 2021 Notification on 28 October 2020 as per the UPSC Examination Calendar 2020, and some important dates are released officially by UPSC. UPSC conducts this exam twice a year which is like a boon to the defence aspirants who are willing to join as Officers’ in the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Officers Training Academies. How to Apply for Combined Defence Services Exam -CDS (I) 2021 Exam?

Follow the steps below to apply online for the CDS 1 Exam 2021:

• Visit official site upsconline.nic.in/ and Click "ONLINE APPLICATION FOR VARIOUS EXAMINATIONS OF UPSC".
• In the Page click on column "Click Here for PART I भाग- I के लिए यहां क्लिक करें" against Combined Defence Services Examination (I)
• Under the section of PART I read the instruction carefully and in the Bottom click on Yes / हां.
• Now the Application form will be appeared, fill your personal and contact details.
• Select the preference for the academies as per age & qualification.
• Now continue to next step. The Registration ID would be generated.
• The candidates should then head to "Part II" of the application form.
• Next step is to deposit the fee of ₹ 200/-.
• Once the fee payment is made, select the desired examination centre.
• Upload a scanned copy of the photograph and signature as per the file size & dimensions specified in the official notification.
• Click to "Submit".
• Print/ Download the application form for future use.

CDS Application Fee:

• The fees for the CDS application form is ₹ 200/-
• SC/ST/Females are exempted from fee payment.
• The payment submission is available in both offline and online mode.
• The payment can be made via Net Banking, Mastercard/Debit Card or cash deposit in any branch of SBI Bank.

CDS 1 2021 Exam Eligibility 

The candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying for CDS 1 2021 examination. Candidates should fulfil the eligibility criteria of UPSC CDS exam at the following levels:

1. Nationality 

A candidate should be:

• The Citizenship of India, or
• The subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
• Tibetan refugee who had been migrated to India before January 01, 1962 with the intention of Permanent Settle, or
• An individual of Indian Origin migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire & Vietnam for permanent settle purpose in India.

2. CDS 1 2021 Age-limit:

The Age limits of a candidate plays a vital role in the CDS 1 2021 notification because UPSC has kept some cut-off dates for the eligibility. So before applying to try to go through the full notification provided by UPSC.

Note 1: Candidate below 25 years of age must be unmarried. Marriage is not permitted during training. Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to apply but during training period they will neither be provided married accommodation nor can they live with family out of the premises

Note 2 : Male divorcee/widower candidates cannot be treated as unmarried male for the purpose of their admission in IMA/INA/AFA/OTA, Chennai courses and accordingly they are not eligible for these courses. 

LAST DATE FOR SUBMISSION AND WITHDRAWAL OF APPLICATIONS:

(i) The Online Applications can be filled upto 17 November, 2020 till 6:00 PM.

(ii) The online Applications can be withdrawn from 24.11.2020 to 30.11.2020 till 6.00 PM. Detailed instructions regarding withdrawal of Applications is available at Appendix-II (B).

CDS 1 2021 Selection Procedure:

1. Written Test: CDS Exam Pattern & CDS Exam Syllabus

The exam pattern of CDS 2 examination is different for Officer Training Academy and Indian Naval Academy/Indian Military Academy/Indian Air Force.

CDS Exam Syllabus

ENGLISH (Code No. 01)

The question paper will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.

Topics like: Basic Grammar, Synonyms, Antonyms, Comprehension Solving, Error Spotting, Para Jumbles, Voices, speeches etc. 

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Code No. 02)

General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study. 

Topics like: History, Geography, Indian Polity, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economy & Current Affairs

ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS (Code No. 03)

Topics like: Arithmetic (Number Systems), Algebra, Trignometry, Geometry, Mensuration & Statistics.

2. SSB Interview

INTELLIGENCE AND PERSONALITY TEST

The SSB procedure consists of two stage Selection process - stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The details are:-

(a) Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on combination of performance in OIR Test and PP&DT.

(b) Stage II Comprises of Personal Interview, Group Tasks Obstacles, Psychology Tests and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 5 days. The details of these tests are given on the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.

The personality of a candidate is assessed by three different assessors viz. 

The Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and the Psychologist. 

• Thereare no separate weightage for each test. The marks are allotted by assessors only after taking into consideration the performance of the candidate holistically in all the test. In addition, marks for Conference are also allotted based on the initial performance of the Candidate in the three techniques and decision of the Board. All these have equal weightage.
• The various tests of IO, GTO and Psych are designed to bring out the presence/absence of Officer Like Qualities and their trainability in a candidate. Accordingly candidates are Recommended or Not Recommended at the SSB.
