CDS Exam Eligibility
The candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying for CDS 2 2020 examination. Candidates should fulfill the eligibility criteria of the UPSC CDS exam at the following levels:
1. Nationality
A candidate should be:
- The Citizenship of India, or
- The subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or
- Tibetan refugee who had been migrated to India before January 01, 1962, with the intention of Permanent Settle, or
- An individual of Indian Origin migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire & Vietnam for permanent settlement purposes in India.
2. CDS 1 2024 Age limit:

CDS 1 2024 Selection Procedure: Syllabus & Exam Pattern & SSB Interview

1. CDS Written Exam Syllabus
ENGLISH (Code No. 01)
The question paper will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.
Topics like: Basic Grammar, Synonyms, Antonyms, Comprehension Solving, Error Spotting, Para Jumbles, Voices, speeches etc.
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Code No. 02)
General Knowledge includes knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on the History of India and Geography of a nature which candidates should be able to answer without special study.
Topics like: History, Geography, Indian Polity, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economy & Current Affairs
ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS (Code No. 03)
Topics like: Arithmetic (Number Systems), Algebra, Trignometry, Geometry, Mensuration & Statistics.
2. SSB Interview
INTELLIGENCE AND PERSONALITY TEST
The SSB procedure consists of two-stage Selection processes - stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The details are:-
(a) Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on a combination of performance in the OIR Test and PP&DT.
(b) Stage II Comprises of Personal Interview, Group Tasks Obstacles, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 5 days. The details of these tests are given on the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
The personality of a candidate is assessed by three different assessors viz.
The Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO), and the Psychologist.
- There is no separate weightage for each test. The marks are allotted by assessors only after taking into consideration the performance of the candidate holistically in all the tests. In addition, marks for Conference are also allotted based on the initial performance of the Candidate in the three techniques and decisions of the Board. All these have equal weightage.
- The various tests of IO, GTO, and Psych are designed to bring out the presence/absence of Officer Like Qualities and their trainability in a candidate. Accordingly, candidates are Recommended or Not Recommended at the SSB.

Q2. Can a final-year student apply for the CDS exam?
Ans: Yes, final-year candidates can apply for CDS, but make sure you are completing your degree before the date of joining.
Q3. Will I get multiple SSB interview calls if I clear the CDS exam for more than one option?
Ans: No, you will get only one SSB call for the first preference you have cleared.
Q4. Can women apply for IMA, AFA, NA through the CDS exam?
Ans: No, women can only apply for OTA Chennai through the CDS exam.
Q5. Can I give the CDS exam after the 12th?
Ans: CDS exam is a graduate-level entry for Defence Services that is for graduates and final year college students. After 12th or while in 12th you can write NDA exam to join Defence services. You are eligible only if you have completed graduation or you are in the final year of graduation.
